YAKU x Nike Re-Create Launch @ The LN-CC

A little over three years ago I graduated from uni having made some upcycled Nike “Creature” shoes as part of the collection. Been playing with AF1s for years before that (and queueing for AF1s for even more years before that) so it felt right. Soon after that I got speaking with Christine - a Nike goat and Re-Create project lead - and showed her everything I’d been cooking. She’d introduced me to Kris and Kyle from the Portland team, who came by the Tottenham studio, and from the jump believed in what I was doing.

So much has happened since that point - Nas and I began co-directing the brand, we’ve put out 8 collections, 4 shows at LFW and 4 free workshops, moved studios 4 times, built a superstar core team and co-created with countless talented young people, and made many many mistakes that turned into big lessons.

One constant remained - bit by bit we were chipping away at this project until around Christmas time last year when the collection was finally ready. :)
We started dreaming up ideas with Izzie, Glo and the Nike London team for how we could show the world this body of work. Still blown away by how much care they put into letting our voice be heard. Having linked up with the Pastdown boys and Jordan to execute exquisitely, we launched at the LN-CC with so many of the special people we met along the way in attendance.

A perfect conclusion to a perfect project. Gassed with how it all came together.

For a long time now, every day has felt super surreal and I feel forever grateful to every single person involved with bringing this collaboration and this milestone to life. It truly takes a village - every person that’s passed through our studio in the last 3 years has likely touched this project. And every idea, critique, iteration, stitch and toile was important. Big up!!
