Challenge the Fabric Award (2024)

This project emerged at a time of deep reflection on the intended meaning of my work, as I realised that focusing solely on hope is insufficient to provide an honest reflection of my truth. I wanted to consciously start expressing myself more explicitly and explore the balance between the hopeful, limitless future I’ve presented so far and the pain that contextualises this desire for peace and prosperity.

The character behind this look embodies these feelings, and in this chapter, finds themselves on a journey to confront the physical embodiment of their/my past, go to war with it and, maybe make peace with it.

It was created using 10 meters of Impetus Group’s Circulose, a 100% recycled fibre made from textiles waste. We focused mostly on exploring what the fabric was and what the limits of it were through fabric manipulation, layering, sanding, dyeing and airbrushing.

And we won! :)
